Digital ID
⚠️ Digital IDs are not accepted. Our platform does not accept identification from digital wallets or pre-captured images of IDs. All ID photos must be taken directly through our secure platform during your meeting with the notary.
Paper Copies
⚠️ Paper copies are not accepted. We do not accept paper copies, photocopies, or printed versions of driver's licenses or any other form of identification. You must present the original, physical ID card.
Primary Forms of Identification
The following photo IDs are commonly accepted as valid primary identification, though requirements vary by state:
- U.S. State-Issued Driver's License - Must be current, valid, and the original physical card (no paper copies or temporary licenses)
- U.S. State-Issued Photo ID Card - Non-driver identification card, original only
- U.S. Passport Book - Must be current, valid, and the original physical book
- U.S. Passport Card - Must be current, valid, and the original physical card (no paper copies or temporary licenses)
- U.S. Military ID Card - Active duty or veteran identification
- Permanent Resident Card - Also known as a "Green Card"
Foreign Identification
Most states accept foreign government-issued IDs, but some jurisdictions require identification to be issued in the United States. When a U.S.-issued ID is needed, identification from any U.S. state or territory is typically acceptable.
ID Quality Requirements
For successful identity verification:
- Photos must be clear and legible
- All text on the ID must be readable
- No blurry or obscured images will be accepted
- If your ID photo is unclear, you'll be asked to retake it
- The ID must be the original physical card—no copies or printouts
Preparing for Your Session
Before your online notarization appointment:
- Verify your ID is current and unexpired (or recently expired if your state allows)
- Ensure you have the original physical ID card, not a paper copy or temporary license
- Ensure your ID includes a photograph
- Check that your name matches the document you're signing
- Be prepared to take clear, well-lit photos of your ID during the session
Questions?
Since ID requirements are determined by the state where your notary is commissioned, and you may be connected with a notary from any state, it's important to have standard acceptable identification ready. When in doubt, a current U.S. driver's license or passport will meet most state requirements.
