State Availability & Notary Readiness Checklist (RON & IPEN)

This resource provides comprehensive information on the states where the Stavvy platform supports Remote Online Notarization (RON) and In-Person Electronic Notarization (IPEN), as well as the necessary steps for electronic notary onboarding.

Part 1: Electronic Notary Readiness Checklist

Before conducting your first electronic notarization (RON or IPEN) on the Stavvy platform, you must complete the following regulatory and platform steps.

State Regulatory Requirements

  1. Obtain a State Notarial Commission: Secure a valid traditional notarial commission from your eligible state. Contact your state notarial authority (e.g., Secretary of State) for specific requirements.

  2. Obtain an Electronic Notary Commission: Fulfill your state's specific requirements for electronic notarizations, which may include:

    • Applying or registering separately for electronic notarization.

    • Paying additional application fees.

    • Completing state-mandated training and testing.

    • Submit an Exemplar Document (a sample of your electronic signature/seal).

    • Verifying your approval status with the state.

  3. Download a Digital Certificate (IdenTrust): You are required to use an identity-based digital certificate for digitally signing and sealing each document. You must purchase an IdenTrust digital certificate and prepare it for upload to your Stavvy profile. ([Instructions for this process can be found here]).

Stavvy Platform Setup

  1. Complete Stavvy Platform Training (StavvyU): Access the self-service training platform, StavvyU, using your Stavvy platform credentials to complete the complimentary notary and operations training.

  2. Complete Your Stavvy Notary Profile: Navigate to your profile settings to provide all essential information:

    • Upload your IdenTrust Digital Certificate.

    • Upload a photo of your ID card for credential analysis.

    • Upload proof of your commission (e.g., official state confirmation).

    • Confirm your notary seal and signature settings.

Note: Your profile must be complete before conducting your first RON or IPEN transaction.

Part 2: State Availability on Stavvy

The states listed below are supported on the Stavvy platform. If the state is not listed, we are either awaiting legislation to be enacted, regulations to be issued, or we are currently working on deploying our services.
