If your Signer is using a mobile device for Identity Verification and sees a black screen when attempting to take a photo of their ID, the issue is almost always that the browser does not have permission to access the phone's camera.
Quick Tip
Ask the Signer: "Are there any apps running in the background right now, like your camera app, Zoom, or FaceTime?"
Mobile devices typically only allow one app to use the camera at a time. Closing other camera-using apps can sometimes resolve the black screen immediately.
📱 iPhone (iOS) Fix
The Signer must grant the browser (usually Safari or Chrome) access to the camera through the main phone settings:
- Open the phone's main Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Privacy & Security.
- Tap Camera.
- Find the browser they are using (e.g., Safari or Chrome).
- Toggle the switch ON to enable camera permission for that browser.
- Return to the Stavvy meeting and refresh the browser tab.
🤖 Android Fix
The path can vary slightly between Android models, but the general steps are the same:
- Open the phone's main Settings app.
- Tap Apps (or Applications or Apps & Notifications).
- Find and tap on the browser they are using (e.g., Chrome or Firefox).
- Tap Permissions.
- Tap Camera and select Allow only while using the app (or simply Allow).
- Return to the Stavvy meeting and refresh the browser tab.
