This article guides you through the process of viewing the certification status of a document and updating your Adobe Acrobat trust settings to ensure Stavvy certificates are automatically validated.
Check Document Certification Status
Upon opening a Stavvy-certified document in Adobe Acrobat, look for the banner at the top of the window:
- Certified Status: A banner across the top should state the document has been certified by Stavvy Inc.
- Validation Issue: If you see an exclamation point icon (e.g., a yellow triangle) next to the signature, it means the certificate's trust needs to be established in your Adobe settings.
Access and Validate the Signature
Follow these steps if you see an exclamation point or need to view the certificate details:
- Click the Signature Panel button on the right-hand side of the document window to open the panel.
- Right-click on the name/email associated with the signature in the panel.
- Select Validate Signature.
- After validation, right-click again and select Signature Properties.
Add the Stavvy Root Certificate to Trusted Identities
This step establishes permanent trust for all Stavvy certificates.
- In the Signature Properties window, click Show Signer's Certificate.
- In the new window, select the Trust tab at the top.
- Select the CA 1 Root Certificate from the list. Note: Selecting the Root Certificate ensures validation for all certificates issued by Stavvy, not just the specific notary's certificate.
- Click Add to Trusted Certificates...
- Click OK on the security prompt.
- Ensure all three boxes are checked under Use this certificate as a trusted root, and click OK.
- Click OK to close the Signature Properties window.
Verify the Successful Validation Update
The validation status should now update:
- Close the Signature Properties window.
- Reopen the Signature Properties window (by following Step 2 again).
- The previous yellow triangle exclamation alert should now update to a green circle check mark.
- You should now see all green checkmarks, confirming the certificate is valid and trusted.
